Born and raised in Munich, and most likely an Italian chef in a former life, Sophie Mefan is now an actress and singer — despite neither liking drama nor being able to snap her fingers.

After studying at the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and the Richard Stury Foundation, she became a permanent ensemble member in Salzburg, where she worked with Christiane Lutz and Rolando Villazón, among others. Since then, she has appeared as a guest performer in theatre and musical productions throughout Europe, including Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Despina in Disney’s Hercules, Phoebe in As You Like It, and Ariel Moore in Footloose, among many others.

She won first prize from the Governing Mayor of Berlin in the main Musical category of the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang, received the Leonard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize for Music from the City of Munich, and was awarded third prize along with six special prizes at the MUT Competition of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz. For her first engagement after graduation, she was nominated as Best Young Artist for the Austrian Music Theatre Award.

Most recently, she originated the role of Despina in the world premiere of Disney’s Hercules, for which she received the BroadwayWorld Award for Best Supporting Performer.

At the heart of her work has always been storytelling. In this spirit, she is currently writing a collection of short stories and channels both lived and imagined experiences into her own music.
